May 20, 2018

HONG KONG — Chinese authorities and Airbus are investigating why a plane's windshield blew out midflight, forcing an emergency landing, in an unusual mishap for a country with a booming aviation market and exemplary air safety record. Sichuan Airlines flight 8633 was en route from Chongqing, China, to Lhasa, Tibet, on Monday morning when the A319 jet's cockpit window jet flew off, the country's aviation regulator said. The pilot made a white-knuckle descent to Chengdu, China as the co-pilot was nearly sucked out of the plane, saved only by his seatbelt. Chinese internet users praised the pilot's levelheaded response during...

BANGKOK — A pilots' organization is warning that soft ground conditions at Bangkok's main international airport, a major regional hub, can cause its taxiways and aircraft parking positions to buckle or otherwise fail. The warning issued this week by the International Federation of Air Line Pilots' Association says soft spots have been reported by flight crews and ground service providers at Suvarnabhumi International Airport since at least 2008. The group issued a similar warning four years ago. The group, which represents over 100,000 pilots worldwide, said it was told by the airport's operator, Airports of Thailand, that the cause of...

Tokio leader Shigeru Joshima said Yamaguchi apologized to the other members, getting on his knees in repentance, and submitted his resignation Monday night, but there was no immediate decision whether to accept it. The group won't disband and...

The Osaka park, packed with holiday makers during Japan's "Golden Week" series of holidays, said all of the riders were evacuated safely. The last passenger had to wait two hours before being brought down. The park apologized and said the...
