Tannersville, United States - November 24, 2017 /PressCable/ —

The Brodhead Watershed Association recently recognized Robert K Ace Jr. Construction for becoming a Friend of the Watershed at their 28th Annual Celebration of Members and Friends titled “Working Together Conversations and Collaboration”. This year the event was held at the Pocono Manor where the keynote speaker was Seamus McGraw, an award-winning author and journalist from northeastern Pennsylvania.

Dedicated to protecting and improving water resources and the environment in the Brodhead and Cherry Creek Watershed, the Brodhead Watershed Association (BWA) operates as a non-profit organization. The BWA protects natural resources through education, workshops, seminars, public programs, stream monitoring & baseline data collection, and stream cleanups as they assist the region’s municipalities, residents, businesses, and groups. They host a full slate of activities and programs throughout the year. Those interested can go to http://brodheadwatershed.org/learn.html or call (570) 839-1120 to learn more.

The Brodhead Watershed encompasses many square miles of territory in the Pocono Mountains and includes a vast array of municipalities in Monroe county and Pike county, PA. In simple terms, a watershed is basically a creek and all the land around it. People sometimes also refer to watersheds as drainage basins. The Brodhead Watershed Association connects the communities within it due to their common interdependence for needed water resources. Many who support the Brodhead Watershed consider the areas contained creeks and streams to be the best indicator of stewardship of the land and water resources the surrounding people depend on.

Robert Ace felt it was important to contribute to the efforts of this local, worthwhile organization because, “The Brodhead and Cherry Creek Watersheds are critical to this area. As the current stewards of our community, I feel it is our duty to ensure the next generation receives the environment in a better condition than we did.” Ace looks forward to building more homes in a community that cares about protecting the natural resources that make it a beautiful place to live and work.

SHANGHAI — It's now possible to check in automatically at Shanghai's Hongqiao airport using facial recognition technology, part of an ambitious rollout of facial recognition systems in China that has raised privacy concerns as Beijing pushes to become a global leader in the field. Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport unveiled self-service kiosks for flight and baggage check-in, security clearance and boarding powered by facial recognition technology, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of China. Similar efforts are underway at airports in Beijing and Nanyang city, in central China's Henan province. Many airports in China already use facial recognition to help speed...

SHANGHAI — Roger Federer had to overcome a second-set stutter. Juan Martin del Potro and Alexander Zverev had to overcome illness. All three still advanced at the Shanghai Masters on Wednesday. Federer, the defending champion, beat Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in the second round despite being broken late in the second set. "I was able to mix it up. Really also took some chances, serve and volley, second serve," the top-seeded Federer said. "In the third set I really started to figure it out, as well, how aggressive or how tactical I wanted to make the match. And by...

Financial Times says Hong Kong denied editor's visa renewal

Oct 18, 2018

HONG KONG — Hong Kong authorities have refused to renew the work visa of a senior editor of the Financial Times, the newspaper said Friday, a move that came after he chaired a talk by a pro-independence activist that drew Beijing's ire. Rights groups called the rejection the latest sign of Beijing's expanding restrictions on the semi-autonomous Chinese territory. The London-based newspaper said in a statement that it was given no reason why Asia news editor Victor Mallet's application was rejected. "This is the first time we have encountered this situation in Hong Kong," it said. While no direct connection...

Famed Tsukiji fish market uneasy over move to new site

Oct 18, 2018

TOKYO — After years of delays Tokyo's 80-year-old Tsukiji fish market is closing on Saturday to move to a more modern facility on reclaimed industrial land in Tokyo Bay. The new, 569 billion yen ($5 billion) facility at Toyosu will open on Oct. 11, over the objections of many working in Tsukiji who contend the new site is contaminated, inconvenient and unsafe. "If the new place were better, I'll be happy to move," said Tai Yamaguchi, whose family has run fish wholesaler Hitoku Shoten since 1964. The 75-year-old leader of a group of 30 women whose families run shops in...
